The search continued at the weekend for a man wanted by gardai in the north Cork area in connection with a rape in Coachford, Co Cork, this month, Dick Hogan writes.
Armed and uniformed gardai continued to comb the heavily forested area near Glenville for the man, who is wanted for questioning about the rape and other serious crimes in the north Cork area.
On Friday morning gardai called to a halting site near Grenville but the man made off in a car as they approached. He later abandoned the car and disappeared into the woods.
The man has an intimate knowledge of the woods and is known to sleep outdoors. Over the weekend the Garda helicopter and gardai from three divisions in Mallow, Fermoy and Cobh joined in the search.
