The SDLP is to open its 37th annual conference in Armagh city tonight.

Party leader Mark Durkan will address the conference tomorrow afternoon in a televised speech.

It is understood he will argue the party must be better able to address the needs of the community than those who have greater authority in the Stormont Executive. It is thought he will also focus on the North’s economic problem.

A fringe event concentrating on miscarriages of justice will be chaired by Alex Attwood MLA. It will involve Gerry Conlon of the Guildford Four, Paddy Hill of the Birmingham Six, justice campaigner Raymond McCord and Brid Boyle of the Ballymurphy Massacre Families.
