Scriptwriter takes RTE to court

A Dublin scriptwriter and actor has taken legal action against RTE over a drama series scheduled for screening in the autumn

A Dublin scriptwriter and actor has taken legal action against RTE over a drama series scheduled for screening in the autumn. The eight-part series, On Home Ground, is based on the fortunes of a GAA club, its players and officials, and families in a small local community, the High Court was told yesterday.

Film producer Mr Patrick Clarke, of Aughrim Street, Dublin, is claiming that the plot and many characters appearing in On Home Ground have been stolen from his script for a film, The Lughill Boys, which is also based on the fortunes of a small-town Gaelic football club.

Mr Justice Murphy yesterday granted Mr Clarke and a number of other plaintiffs leave to issue pleadings alleging infringement of copyright against a number of Little Bird Television companies and RTE.
