A POST-MORTEM was held at the Regional Hospital, Limerick, yesterday on a Lithuanian sailor who was found dead on Thursday in his cabin in a freighter which has been docked in Limerick since January. The man, who was 46, had arrived on the vessel from Las Palmas to take on a supply of meat from the Foynes but it was held because of outstanding debts, it was alleged.
The Panamanian-registered Blue Ice was refused a certificate by the Department of the Marine subject to extensive repairs being carried out. Since then the vessel had been sold and was due to leave Limerick next week.
