Athletics:Russian runner Aleksi Sokolov has won the Dublin Marathon and in the process set a new record by coming home in 2hours 11minutes 36 seconds.
Ukraines's Olexander Kuzin was second while Kenya's Edwin Komen was third in his first ever marathon. Elena Ivanova made it a Russian double by winning the women's race in 2:29:49.
More than 10,000 runners and walkers began the marathon which got under way at 9am this morning. The race started outside Kilkenny Design in Nassau Street and finishes outside the National Gallery in Merrion Square.
Organisers confirmed this is the third straight year that entries have exceeded the 10,000 mark with Irish competitors up by 10 per cent on last year.
The prize money has been increased to €106,400. Sokolov will collect the €15,000 first prize plus receive a bonus of €3,000 for beating the course record by more than one-and-a-half minutes.
The first Irishman home was Cian McLoughlin in a time of 2:22:36.
