Rush-hour bombs kill two in Nepal

Nepal: Three bombs exploded in the capital of Nepal, killing two and injuring scores more

Nepal:Three bombs exploded in the capital of Nepal, killing two and injuring scores more. The blasts occurred within minutes of each other in the city centre.

One ripped through a commuter bus while two others exploded at city centre bus stops close to a university and a busy central shopping centre.

One student was killed in the bus stop blast and several injured as the group of high school students were waiting for their bus. A woman was also killed. The blasts occurred at the start of evening rush-hour traffic, injuring more than 25 people and sending others fleeing for safety.

Two little-known groups from the south were reported to have claimed responsibility, but neither claim was verified.

Tensions in the Terai area of southern Nepal have been rising for the past few months as political parties assert their right to full representation in elections due in November. The capital had not experienced bombings since a historic peace accord was signed by Maoists last year, ending their insurgency.
