A DUNDALK runner is aiming to take the record for the most marathons completed by an Irish woman at the Dublin City Marathon this year, her 200th marathon event.
Collette O’Hagan, a 61-year-old foster mother, is looking for 200 people to walk or run with her on the day in aid of the Aurelia Trust, an Irish charity that helps children in Romanian orphanages.
Ms O’Hagan, who started running in 1990, has completed marathons in Beijing, Boston, Barbados and Belfast. This year she’s calling on 200 people to each raise €200 to join Team Collette on October 25th. The Louth athlete is a regular visitor to Romania where she works with orphans. The money she raises is set to fund a group-home for eight orphaned children and their carers in Negra Voda, Romania.
“I’ve been involved with them for 20 years,” she says. “They are very dear to my heart. Anything we can do will make a difference.” A spokeswoman for Dublin City Marathon said: “Collette ran her 100th marathon in Dublin on the weekend her mother passed away . . . She’s an amazing woman.”
