The Supreme Court yesterday reserved its decision in an appeal by a Greek neurosurgeon who challenged his dismissal from Beaumont Hospital, Dublin.

Dr Christos Georgopoulos lost his High Court case to have his dismissal from the hospital ruled invalid. He is appealing the decision.

Yesterday, the two hour appeal was heard before the Chief Justice, Mr Justice Hamilton, Mr Justice O'Flaherty and Mr Justice Barrington. In the High Court judgment in 1993, Mr Justice Murphy said that Dr Georgopoulos was given ample opportunity by the Beaumont hospital board to deal fully with allegations that he was unavailable to medical and nursing staff while on duty and thereby placed the management and care of patients at risk.
