Andy Roddick, the 18-year-old who ousted Pete Sampras last month at Miami, added second seed Todd Martin to a growing scap heap of seeds at the ATP Atlanta Challenge.

Roddick defeated Martin 7-5, 6-2 yesterday in their first career meeting to reach the quarter-finals of the event -Roddick's first ATP appearance on clay.

It is his second ATP quarter-final of the season - he also reached this stage at the Miami Masters Series event in which he eliminated Sampras and another former world Number 1, Chile's Marcelo Rios.

The only top-eight seeds in Atlanta left are defending champion Andrew Ilie of Australia, ranked number five, and sixth-seeded Jerome Golmard of France, who defeated Germany's Lars Burgsmuller 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.
