The latest stretch of pathway stretching along the banks of the river Nore in Kilkenny was officially opened yesterday when walkers were urged to join the city’s first walking festival.

The programme of outdoor events runs in the city and county throughout April. Details were launched yesterday as Kilkenny County Council officially opened its redeveloped Lacken Walk.

Following the river along 7km of pathway, the walk is part of the development of the Nore Linear Park and was officially opened by Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan.

The festival is a collaboration between Trail Kilkenny, which has been championing the development, management and promotion of a range of high-quality walking, cycling and other leisure trails, and the Kilkenny Recreation and Sports Partnership.
