There was violence in the Ardoyne area of North Belfast last night as loyalists and nationalists clashed.
Blast bombs, petrol bombs, stones, fireworks and other missiles were thrown by the rival gangs as the police and British soldiers cordoned off an area between Twadell Avenue and the Ardoyne roundabout on Crumlin Road. Police fired plastic bullets as they came under attack.
A bomb disposal team was called early this morning to examine a device that was later found to be harmless.
