Thirty-five years after the Fab Four's only appearance in Dublin, former Beatle Ringo Starr has announced a concert at Dublin's Point Theatre for August 20th.
"This will be the first time an ex-Beatle has ever played a solo concert in Ireland," said Mr Chris Roche, publicist for Aiken Promotions, which is promoting the show.
The Beatles played the Adelphi Theatre in Dublin on November 7th, 1963. Ringo Starr, whose real name is Richard Starkey, has toured the world regularly with his All-Starr band since 1989, and the current line-up features respected musicians from the 1960s and 1970s, including Peter Frampton, Jack Bruce, Gary Brooker and Simon Kirke. Tickets for the show, priced £25, go on sale next Thursday. Since the break-up of The Beatles in 1970, Starr has had a patchy solo career, playing minor roles in films like That'll Be The Day and Lisztomania, and having only a handful of hit records.
He has continued to work with ex-Beatles Paul McCartney and George Harrison, and the three reformed in 1995 to record two new Beatles tracks, Free As A Bird and Real Love, using the taped voice of the late John Lennon. Starr has also provided the voices for the Thomas the Tank Engine children's programmes.
