An RUC reservist who "forgave" a neighbour for trying to intimidate him into leaving his Co Tyrone home saved the man from prison yesterday.

Belfast Crown Court heard that the policeman "bore no grudge" against his neighbour, Darren Thomas Friel (22), who admitted charges of intimidation and arson of the reservist's van on July 11th last. Friel, from Holmview Mews, Omagh, was given a two year suspended jail term by Judge Derek Rodgers, who told him that he owed the reservist a "considerable debt for his attitude".
