A report from the inter-departmental committee set up to establish the facts of the State's involvement with the Magdalen laundries, chaired by Senator Martin McAleese, is to go to the Cabinet on February 5th next. On January 9th Minister for Justice Alan Shatter said he understood the report would be submitted to him within 10 days and expected to publish it within four weeks.

It is now understood the committee received further material at the last minute which they felt had to be included so there has been some revision. However, the committee has been briefing the Minister on the report on an ongoing basis
