The Garda in Galway has dismissed as "grossly inaccurate" a report that the man convicted of killing the Co Galway schoolteacher, Mrs Nancy Nolan, in February of last year was linked to the continuing investigation into the murder of a taxi driver, Mrs Eileen Costello-O'Shaughnessy, three years ago.

Chief Supt Tom Monaghan of the Galway West division said yesterday's report in the Evening Herald, which suggested the Garda had evidence that the convicted man was in the area at the time Mrs Costello-O'Shaughnessy's body was recovered on December 1st, 1997, was "grossly inaccurate and downright untrue".

The investigation into Mrs Costello-O'Shaughnessy's murder is continuing, Chief Supt Monaghan said.
