A Dublin man charged with handling over £200,000 worth of stolen paintings, including portraits of Sir John and Lady Lavery, was further remanded by the Dublin District Court yesterday.

Mr James O'Brien (45), of Park Drive, Ranelagh, is charged with handling a self portrait of John Lavery and a portrait of his wife, worth £200,000.

He is also charged with handling 21 Sydney Goodman paintings valued at £2,000. All offences are said to have occurred at a place unknown within the State on January 24th.

Det Ian Ferris, of the Central Detective Unit, said a file had been sent to the DPP. He was seeking a long remand. Judge David Riordan was told Mr O'Brien consented to the remand and adjourned the matter to April 16th. Mr O'Brien is on bail.
