LONDON - The former Conservative leadership challenger, Mr John Redwood, said yesterday the government should pledge not to join a single currency in the life of the next parliament if it won another term of office.

Launching a book he described as a "call to arms for the Conservative Party", Mr Redwood also demanded tough, action by Britain to rein in the European Court of Justice and make clear British laws took precedence over European Union legislation.
