ASTRONOMY IRELAND is to host its largest watch this evening to view a conjunction of the moon and Venus and a rare comet which is most visible this week and will not be returning again for millions of years.

Venus and the moon will be visible beside each other from around sunset for about three hours.

It is the fourth time in the last three months it has happened, but Venus will be at its biggest for three years and will look like a thin crescent beside the moon which will also be a crescent.

Also on view will be Comet Lulin which appears in binoculars to have two tails.
