The Labour Party leader Pat Rabbitte staged a mock barbeque in Dublin today to 'roast' the broken promises of Fianna Fáil.
Describing the Fianna Fáil 2002 election manifesto ' A lot done: More to do'as one of the most "dishonest and deceitful documents every produced by any political party", Mr Rabbitte was joined by Dublin South East deputy Ruairi Quinn to symbolically roast the document.
Mr Rabbitte said Fianna Fáil's 2002 campign was "based on deceit" and added that: "Some of the promises were brazenly made in the knowledge that the incoming government would no capacity to deliver them".
"Perhaps the worst example was the promise made by Bertie Ahern and his colleagues five years ago that all hospital waiting lists would be cleared within two years. Fianna Fáil and the PDs did not even pretend to make an effort to implement this", he said.
In contrast to the 2002 campaign however, the party leader said that people now had a clear alternative available to them on polling day.
An alternative government, with Labour at its heart, he said had the capacity to deliver real change, including providing more hospital beds and more gardai on the streets.
