Queries over access to 22.8m Dell fund

Former dell workers will next month learn if accessing a €22

Former dell workers will next month learn if accessing a €22.8 million training and back-to-work support fund will hit their social welfare entitlements.

Minister of State for Labour Affairs Dara Calleary said issues were raised at a meeting with former Dell workers last month, and answers would be available in time for their next meeting. It is understood the earnings of spouses and previous participation in third-level courses are among the matters complicating people’s access to the fund.

Dell announced in January of last year that its plant at Raheen in Co Limerick was to close with the loss of almost 2,000 jobs. The Government applied for funding under the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund in July. It was approved in November. Some €14.8 million is coming from the EU, with €8 million from the Government.
