Irish bathroom manufacturer Qualceram Shires will cut between 60 and 70 jobs at two of its British factories, it was announced today.

Qualceram said it wants to streamline the Stoke-based Shire Bathroom division it bought last year. Last October 80 jobs were cut by the group at its acrylic factory in Bradford.

Qualceram Shires chief executive Mr John O'Loughlin said: "Our prime objective is to increase productivity in all plants and achieve optimum efficiency and this will be done by a mixture of redundancy and increased production."

Mr O'Loughlin said Qualceram is committed to maintaining its factories in Britain and Ireland.
