Dutch side PSV Eindhoven have filed an official protest with UEFA over being forced to play against Nantes in the Champions League on Tuesday.

"We learned Wednesday that contrary to Tuesday's decision, UEFA decided to postpone the rest of this week's games as a gesture of respect for the victims of the attacks in the United States," the club said in a statement.

"This decision should have been taken earlier," it said.

The PSV game against French champions Nantes, which the Dutch side lost 4-1, was one of eight Champions League games that UEFA decided to play on Tuesday just hours after the massacres in New York and Washington.

The following day, UEFA decided the remaining eight games would be postponed until October 10th.

PSV Eindhoven said club chairman Harry van Raaij had requested the game be called off before it had started and that they would only play under protest.

PSV coach Eric Gerets had said on Tuesday that he believed the matches should have been postponed. "No coach, player or journalist felt like watching this match being played," said Gerets.
