PSNI officers have rescued six suspected victims of human trafficking in Northern Ireland in recent weeks following a major operation lasting three months.

Over the past two years more than 70 such victims have been rescued in Northern Ireland, according to PSNI figures.

Detectives arrested four suspects and rescued six victims in an operation centred in Belfast but also across Europe.

Two men aged 29 and 22 were arrested yesterday in apartments in the King Street area of central Belfast while a 24-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were arrested in Cavendish Street off the Falls Road in west Belfast.

All the suspected victims are from eastern Europe.
