Police in Northern Ireland arrested 19 people last night following a public order incident in Ballycastle, Co Antrim.

Police in Northern Ireland arrested 19 people last night following a public order incident in Ballycastle, Co Antrim.

The incident happened shortly after 2am when a group of individuals started throwing missiles including bottles at police at the Diamond and surrounding streets in the centre of the town.

Additional police were called in to help control the area and protect passersby during the hour-long attack.

Six officers were struck with missiles and two others were slightly injured in the incident.

The majority of those arrested were charged with riotous behaviour or disorderly conduct and were released this morning.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
