PSNI detectives investigating the murder in 1988 of a German backpacker are to make a fresh TV appeal to solve the crime.

The body of Inga Hauser (18) was discovered in a shallow grave in a forest near Ballycastle, Co Antrim. The woman from Munich had travelled to meet a friend in Cardiff but decided to visit Scotland and Northern Ireland .

Police originally believed the teenager had been in the province for 11 days before she died.

A BBC Crimewatchreconstruction next week will advance the theory that she may have died within hours of arriving in Northern Ireland on the 7am ferry from Stranraer on April 6th, 1988. The investigation is now focusing on her journey on board the Galloway Princess.
