Dozens of puppies were recovered last night by the Police Service of Northern Ireland and the Ulster Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at farm buildings in Katesbridge, Co Down.

The rescue mission was undertaken after dogs were spotted near the Circular Road site feeding from an animal carcass. A range of breeds, including boxers, were kept in the buildings.

The removal operation lasted most of the night as animal welfare officers dealt with the number of breeds of dogs.
