MANCHESTER - A judge yesterday cleared the way for the eviction of protesters on the site of Manchester Airport's planned £172 million second runway.

District judge David Shannon granted the airport and contractors possession orders to reclaim land occupied since the beginning of the year.

Green activists have built tree houses and dug tunnels close to seven camps in the Bollin Valley in Cheshire. The protesters said they would appeal the decision.
