The programme of the 55th South of Ireland bridge congress, which takes place in the Lake Hotel, Killarney, from May 9th to 17th, is as follows: major pairs (Magnier Trophy) on first Saturday (7.30 p.m.) and Sunday; mixed teams (Goldenfield Trophy) on Monday and Tuesday night; women's and men's teams (Lake Hotel trophies) on Wednesday night.
The mixed pairs (Dr E.N.M. O'Sullivan Trophy) on Thursday and Friday night; major teams (Lough Lein Trophy) over two sessions on the final Saturday, and one on the final Sunday (1.30 p.m.), followed by the congress dinner and the presentation of prizes. Open pairs throughout with novice pairs on the first Saturday and each Wednesday night.

The Contract Bridge Association of Ireland's national team championship (Kelburne Cup), played in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel, Athlone, was won by J. and P. Connolly, S. and R. Masterson (North Western Region) with a score of 203 victory points. Runners-up were D. Jackson, P. Barry, R. Milne, and B.J. O'Brien (Dublin South) with 191. Third were Dr G.M. Keaveney, the Rev E. Glynn, Comdt E.J. Fitzgerald, and R. Timlin with 180.
