Next Tuesday's threatened strike by probation officers has been deferred, following new proposals from the Department of Justice. The probation officers were going on strike because of the Department's failure to include them in a review group of the service.

Yesterday, the Department offered to expand the framework of the group to ensure full consultation with the probation officers' union, IMPACT, before producing its report. Further consultation will take place after the report's publication.
