A new book aimed at exposing "the myth that Catholics and Protestants cannot live together" was launched yesterday by the west Belfast priest, Father Des Wilson.

Father Wilson, who has worked in west Belfast for more than 30 years, said ordinary people had been blamed for what their "lords and masters" in both governments and the churches had done.

In the book, Democracy De- nied, Father Wilson argues that successive British governments have manipulated both Catholics and Protestants for their own purposes, and that the churches and the Irish Government also played a role in keeping the two communities apart.
