Electricity has been restored to approximately 5,000 households in the Co Meath area following power cuts which lasted for up to three hours last night.

The ESB said a major fault had cut supply to customers around the Trim area of the county.

The fault was reported at about 10.30pm last night and power was restored at about 1am.
