The body of a man in his 20s was found in a river in North Belfast today.

The local man was discovered by a passer-by lying half in the water near the Ballygomartin Road.

Police sealed off the area and said they were treating the death as suspicious. A post mortem is due to be carried out later today.

Earlier, they said they no longer suspected a crime was involved in the death of a 51-year-old man whose body was discovered in a house at Bangor, County Down.

The man, named locally as Roy Matthews, was found in his Church Street home by a neighbour who became suspicious when he spotted the front door lying open.

Meanwhile, the body of a 71-year-old man has been found in a field in County Derry.

A farm worker discovered the body on the edge of a wood about a mile from Ballykelly.

Local people said they believed the body had been there for some time and that it was that of a keen walker who was often seen out in the area.
