Vatican City - Pope John Paul II yesterday called for a code of ethics to be drawn up to govern globalisation, which he warned should not be allowed to become a new form of colonialism.

"Globalisation should not be a new form of colonialism, but should respect the diversity of cultures," he said when addressing the papal academy of social sciences.
