Bríd Smith was contesting her fourth general election. She stood initially for the Socialist Workers Party in 1997 and 2002. She is standing now for Anti-Austerity Alliance-People before Profit. She also contested the 2014 European elections. She did not stand in 2011, instead supporting the campaign of Joan Collins. Smith has argued strongly against bin charges, the Iraq war, the Lisbon Treaty, water charges and property taxes. – SARAH BARDON
