Commission on bail set up

An ad hoc commission consisting of the Ombudsman, the Clerk of the Dail and the Clerk of the Seanad has been formed on the invitation of the Minister for the Environment, Mr Howlin, to supervise the production and publication of an information statement setting out the case for and against the proposed constitutional amendment on bail.

Mr Sean Ryan SC will provide the commission with the case for the amendment and Mr Edward Comyn SC the case against it. In a notice in this morning's newspapers, the commission has invited written submissions before Monday, November 4th.
