The Turf Club today announced it will abandon the 2001 point-to-point season, ending weeks of speculation as to whether point-to-points could resume.

The Stewards of the INHS Committee today took the view that racing could not realistically have been expected before the start of May and then only in a limited way given the stringent disinfectant controls needed.

The season was due to end on May 27th anyway and the stewards said they saw no alternative but to abandon it now.

They added that the programmes committee have included a small number of opportunities on the racecourse for horses still in training.
