Heavy rain forced organisers of the Wales Open to cut the event to 36 holes today and order a playoff between second-round leaders Paul McGinley, Paul Lawrie and Darren Lee.

Ireland's McGinley and the two Britons, who shared a one-stroke lead after 36 holes, would play off for 75 percent of the original $237,000 prize money, organisers said.

Rain washed out the first day on Thursday and prevented Sunday's play going ahead as planned.
