London - The former Chilean dictator, Gen Augusto Pinochet, is to mount a High Court challenge to the British government's decision to allow extradition proceedings against him, after a ruling in the House of Lords reduced the number of charges against him from 33 to three.

Mr Michael Caplan, the general's solicitor, said he hoped to seek permission from the court on Thursday to apply for a judicial review.
