Delays in the design process for the Carlisle Pier project in Dún Laoghaire have forced developers to postpone lodging a planning application for the second time.
It had been hoped that a planning application to regenerate the 19th-century pier would have been lodged in 2004. This was postponed to the first quarter of 2005 pending engineering studies, and has now been postponed again, to September.
The Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company, a State-owned company, selected a consortium led by Urban Capital to carry out the redevelopment. The plan includes a National Marine Life Centre, a hotel, 229 apartments and retail developments, along with a floating stage and parking. A Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company spokesman said that it had taken longer than expected to get detailed design plans worked out.
