Eircom chief executive Dr Philip Nolan has been appointed chairman of the Irish Management Institute (IMI) for a three-year term.

Dr Nolan succeeds Dr Chris Horn, who has completed a three year term of office as chairman.

IMI chief executive Dr Tom McCarthy paid tribute to Dr Horn's contribution to the institute.

The organisation has undergone significant development under his guidance and his commitment to the organisation has been of the highest level," Dr McCarthy said.

Dr Nolan has been a member of the IMI board since 2003. A native of Fermanagh, He graduated from Queen's University in Belfast with a BSc and a PhD in geology and has an MBA from the London Business School.

Dr Nolan said the IMI is in a "unique position" to align the personal needs of education with those of business to the benefit of Irish business.
