Phil Coulter makes film debut as priest

Phil Coulter has made his screen debut playing a Catholic priest in Black Eyed Dog, shot in San Francisco.

Phil Coulter has made his screen debut playing a Catholic priest in Black Eyed Dog, shot in San Francisco.

The film is the first production by Aisling Works, a company which draws together the talents of the Irish community living in the San Francisco Bay area. Aisling Works was formed by Mr Paul Barnett from Buncrana, Co Donegal and Mr Mickel O'Riordan from Limerick.

Coulter's cameo role resulted from his friendship with Mr Barnett. Black Eyed Dog was written by Richard O'Connell from Cork, who also directed the film.

The soundtrack includes music by Mary Black and Tommy Fleming. Coulter's song, The Town I Love so Well, is also included. Poetry in the film was contributed by Varese Layzer, resident poet at University College, Cork.

The two-hour film tells the story of an Irish traditional music group chasing the American dream as it strives to complete a record deal following a very successful West Coast tour.

Black Eyed Dog will be submitted to the Galway Film Festival in 1999.
