A 23-year-old paraplegic had to be ejected from a disco, a district court heard yesterday. The court heard that Mark Quinn of Knockroe, Delgany, Co Wicklow, had attended a birthday party with his two brothers and some friends in Portarlington, Co Laois.
A row erupted in the local hotel disco and the defendant became so aggressive during a bottle-throwing incident that he had to be physically lifted and carried from the premises. Garda Pat Lyne said the defendant refused to give his name and address and abused people along the street. The solicitor told the court the defendant was the victim of a hit-and-run car accident four years ago and was now a paraplegic. He intended to go to Australia to start a new life but, if convicted, he would not be issued with a visa.
Judge Mary Martin ordered the defendant to pay £100 to the court poor-box and told him to enrol for an alcohol awareness programme. She adjourned the hearing until July 6th.
