A coalition of Palestinian groups called for two "Days of Rage" this week and an escalation of their uprising to protest at the "aggressive" policies of hardline Israeli Prime Minister-elect Mr Ariel Sharon.

The National and Islamic Forces called for marches and demonstrations and action against Jewish settlements in the occupied territories next Tuesday and Friday "to confront the aggressive plans of the racist Sharon."

It said Friday should be a day of "total confrontation" with Sharon, with calls for marches in Islamic nations to support the Palestinian intifada.

The coalition groups 13 political factions including Palestinian leader Mr Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement as well as hardline anti-Israeli groups including Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
