The Orange Order is to deliver a submission to the Independent Commission on Policing in February demanding that the RUC's name be retained and that the Union flag should continue to fly from police stations.

The order will also insist that the crown symbol continues to adorn the RUC badge and insignia.

The order's executive officer, Mr George Patton, said: "The commission has responded positively to our request for a meeting and we are preparing a detailed submission on the wide remit of policing in Northern Ireland."
