BRITAIN: London Mayor Ken Livingstone yesterday said the capital's bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games will go "down to the wire".

"I think we are in a stronger position now than when we began," he said.

"This is going to be a race that is right down to the wire in Singapore." British bookmakers seemed to agree with Mr Livingstone, cutting London's odds of winning. The odds on Paris were drifting although it still remains a strong favourite.

The International Olympic Committee has spent four days visiting London. The other hopefuls are Madrid, New York and Moscow. The winner will be announced in Singapore in July.
