Scot Andrew Oldcorn, a 150-1 outsider at the start of the week, birdied the last two holes to win the Volvo PGA championship by two shots at Wentworth today.

Oldcorn, without a European tour win for six years and a conqueror of the energy-sapping ME virus, held off challenges from a rejuvenated Nick Faldo and Argentina's Angel Cabrera to take the £333,330 sterling prize with a closing 71 and 16-under-par total of 272.

It puts him in sight of a Ryder Cup debut in September and earns him a five-year tour exemption.

Faldo was set to finish second until Cabrera birdied the 17th and eagled the 18th - something which delivered a serious blow to the British player's own hopes of a Ryder Cup return.
