Newcastle defender Andy O'Brien has failed in his bid to overturn the red card he was shown in the 5-0 defeat to Chelsea last weekend.
The Republic of Ireland defender's appeal to the Football Association was unsuccessful and his suspension now begins on November 23.
He had been dismissed from the game by referee Paul Durkin, who adjudged he hauled down Adrian Mutu in the box. Durkin subsequently awarded a penalty.
