The State's 40,000 nurses will start voting this week to elect 17 representatives to An Bord Altranais, the statutory body for nursing. The Minister for Health appoints the other 12 members of the board, which regulates the profession.

There are 43 candidates for the five panels representing general and paediatric, psychiatric, mental handicap and midwifery, and public health.

Nurses have until July 18th to cast their votes. The count starts on July 21st and results are expected the next day.
