Nurses resume protests at A&E overcrowding

The Irish Nurses' Organisation's (INO) third day of lunchtime protests at overcrowding in A&E will take place today.

The Irish Nurses' Organisation's (INO) third day of lunchtime protests at overcrowding in A&E will take place today.

Demonstrations will be held outside the Mercy Hospital, Cork; Letterkenny General Hospital; Our Lady of Lourdes, Drogheda; and Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

Further protests are planned to take place on Tuesday at Naas General Hospital; University College Hospital, Galway; Tralee General Hospital; and Wexford General Hospital.

Yesterday there were 336 patients on trolleys in A&E, according to the INO.

INO spokesman Dave Hughes rejected the Taoiseach's claims that Government measures were easing A&E overcrowding.

"The reality is that the Government measures are not having any visible effect on the ground," he said. "If the Taoiseach has any doubt about that, let him visit any of the hospitals and he will then know that these measures are not working."
