Oslo - The Norwegian government opened the 1999 whale hunting season yesterday after fixing a limit of 753 kills as opposed to 621 last year. It is the highest quota set since Norway resumed whale hunting in 1993.

The fishing ministry authorised 35 ships to operate until the end of July, when the season usually ends.
